Never reported back about the new Toshiba laptop. Working great! Except for some sort of Toshiba software that keeps opening up telling me I have messages, it has been a seamless transition. At some point, I will spend a few minutes and turn that off.
Took just a few minutes to get the audio chain set up so that I knew I could reliably record on the road. The first set up was with the dbx mini pre-amp I have been using for years, but early in the week a new MicPort Pro arrived and that was even easier to set up. I’m hooked on it, just like everyone else I know who has one.
The only thing I am missing right now is a single piece of Auralex acoustic foam in the 2″ pyramids – not the long wedges – the little pyramids. Need to replace the old foam in my portable studio. It is disintegrating and leaving little black specks all over everything.
Hi, Connie….hope the MicroPort Pro worked out well. The triangle Auralex is available through Sweetwater Sound for about $20 if I remember right. As for Robby Resnick…
with gratitude,

Glad to hear the gear is working well! My MicPort Pro is my main mate in the studio, and their customer service is outstanding. After a year of use, the tiny plug that goes into the MicPort was not fitting as snug anymore, and it fell out as I was recording. Within a matter of days, I received a new cable, free of charge.
What persuaded you to buy the MicPort Pro instead of… lets say, an Avalon (apart from the price tag)? What were you using before and how does the MicPort Pro measure up against it?
My Dell inspirion is fading rapidly, after only two years. Every day I receive a message saying: “The battery has reached the end if its functional life”… and I need to reboot frequently. Do you think these computers have a built-in self-destruct mechanism?
Meanwhile, my friends’ Mac is still going strong after 8 years of intensive use. That’s going to be my next big investment!
Be well and Happy Easter!
Paul
My previous travel pre-amp was a mini dbx. About 4 inches square with a standard heavy power cable – plus two mic cables. The reason I went with the MicPort Pro was because several of my other VO buds use it and have been very happy. I saw it for the first time at VOICE 2007.
The mini dbx still works great – a good backup in case another channel on my Mackie poops out.
