We all must find our own way to process what it means to live. The small congregation of a church close to her little house here in San Diego is going to have a remembrance for her today during their service. She played piano and organ nearly her whole life and was able to play at a Thanksgiving dinner and at a Christmas party with the members of the church until she knew that she wasn’t performing at the level she expected of herself. This was probably one of the most heartbreaking things to watch – her piano skills deteriorating. But she was able to appreciate the classics until the moment she passed away.

Losing a parent is never easy, even if it is “the order of things in the Universe”. So glad you had the chance to hear those tapes, and re-meet your Mom’s nurturing side. When my Dad dies, I found a diary that he had written (probably as a class assignment, since it only covered about a month of his life) as a 14-year-old growing up in the Bronx playing stickball whenever he could. Weird but wonderful. Condolences on your loss, and all the emotions that come with it.
