Especially when it comes to someone who speaks a different language. But if someone asks me to recommend some “male talent,” then the questions begin. Lots of questions. And time spent on the talent websites, reminding myself of their strengths. It really does add up time-wise! But you don’t want to disappoint a client by NOT being able to help, so we spend the time.

I love referring people, but it can be so tricky. The Spanish voice over talents I recommend sound nothing like me in tone, but my clients love them because they’re so professional (which I why I connected with them in the first place).

There are some people whose style, demands, or payment record are such that I would never have them contact one of my go-to people. In making a recommendation, the supplier has a right to expect some vetting of the new client. Sending work to someone is a wonderful thing… sending a huge headache is quite something else.
